[ When Strange starts talking, it's after a pause, like he's mulling over his words before he says them. ]

I think it's obvious that the realm the carnival resides in is exceedingly magical. People can learn spells even if they come from a world without magic and those with magic can find their talents pulled in ways they weren't expecting. [ exhibit A, Tamaki. exhibit B, Childermass. ] I think that it's also obvious that there's opportunity for a bit of chaos, especially from magic that someone from a non-magical world has just learned.

[ says the person who generally causes 75% of the magical chaos to begin with. Still, there's nothing condemning in Strange's tone as he talks about people messing things up...if anything, there's a hint of awe. Magic is awesome, after all, and he's so pumped that people in the carnival are picking up spells. ]

Most of you know me already but for those who don't, I am Jonathan Strange, magician and nightrunner. Obviously my duties to the carnival come first, but should anyone with magic, whether from their home or the carnival, want someone to practice, discuss, or explore magic with, I'll gladly offer my help! [ because he is a huge nerd and wants to see how everybody else's magic shakes out. ]

Of course, the offer of discussion extends to all the carnival. [ He can't help but laugh a little, tone obviously chipper. ] After all, you can still talk about magic even if you can't perform it!

You've never found a way to stop someone from doing magic have you?

Why on Earth would you want to do that?

[ says the person who has done some worrying things in his quest for magic ]

[Ah... Suddenly uncomfortable.]

Well... You know if someone used magic on accident a lot or something.

Then it sounds like that person needs training, not to stop using magic altogether.

[mylastchance]

I don't want him to stop for good, just sometimes.

[Like magic on/off switch or something... He sighs.]

Tried training, but it didn't work.

Out of curiosity, what sort of teacher did you have with the training? While some students can learn all on their own, it always helps if you have a decent teacher.

[mylastchance]

[You can practically hear the shrug in his voice.]

Just someone who knew magic. Normal magic.

One of them turned evil and started kidnapping people. That's not so normal.

I must agree with Susan on this. That isn't normal in the slightest!

Okay, that one person there wasn't normal.

[kingsroads]

And how many teachers did you have in all?

[wild_magic]

It was a school, so there were lots of teachers.

But I only stayed there for two weeks, because of the bad guy thing. [Not that he was complaining. He hated it there.]

[ and then he puts two and two together, ] Don't tell me Lauren was asking about you! You seem to have good control over your magic already!

[ what's one burned school in the grand scheme of things, after all? ]

[Even more awkward. He can't even argue it's a hypothetical now.]

I was just curious.

I'm good at controlling my magic, it's the other things that happen when I use it that I can't control. [Which basically is his magic too, but shhh.]

What other things? [ don't mind Strange just being hella nosy ]

Disappearing into thin air.

[He's only to happy to offer examples.]

It wasn't into thin air! [Not that he knew where he was, but still. He definitely didn't just disappear.]

And that only happened once, anyway! Most of the time it's just... Fire. [That one happened a lot.]

Does the fire happen accidentally or does this only happen when you summon the fire?

[wild_magic]

Well... Sometimes it's when I try to use it. But most of the time it just... happens.

[mylastchance]

It's not just a small flame either.

[More like an explosion]

I'm afraid I won't be much use in that regard—my magic's awful at small things as well.

[ says the person who can't do subtle in the slightest ]

If the problem is the magic just 'happening', perhaps you simply need to use it more? Or push yourself harder when you're actually using your magic to try and tire yourself out so these accidents don't happen. Of course, this is all pure speculation. English magic doesn't have these sorts of problems.

Yeah, and while trying to stop him you almost lit the school on fire.
