Oh! It's sort of a term to describe being in 'good favor' with someone. So...if someone went out of their way to help another, specifically so that this 'other person' would remember them in a better light, it would be 'scoring brownie points'.
A good way to put it... [She thinks it over.] ...Someone helping their teacher with after-school matters; the 'brownie points' would be appearing diligent, or helpful in the teacher's eyes!
...of course not everyone uses the term badly, but it tends to imply going out of your way to 'look good', [She huffs, apparently not very fond of those sorts.]
