Victor Nikiforov, new showman here. I have a question for anyone who has a few minutes to talk!
( There's a smile in his voice; entirely deliberate, and entirely gone once he gets to his question. )
What things do you wish you'd been told about or known from early on once you started working here?

[And she, of course, will be waiting-though whatever Victor expected to meet with, it probably wasn't this. The tent itself is nice-once inside, the fabric walls are brilliant in their colour and pattern, with one presently blue stretch hanging far across the entire tailoring perimeter-dipping down once in a while within its ten yards. A large machine looking partway between a cauldron and a knitting machine sits on its own near one back wall, and a mannequin stands presently still near a few dressing models. Sewing machines and chairs are about the place, and if he really looks he can see the way to the dressing area, and makeup rooms...
But Carly herself, no doubt, takes the cake. Carly wears little-miniskirt, tank top, that's all she needs. But what's revealed as a result is more than a shock. For what would have been human, despite bird legs, the skin is marble white and even feathered at points. Her fae-marks spiral around limbs and along the body, seeming to 'cut' through where they lay.
And as for what they cut down to, that...is the eye-catcher.
Spreading out from her tail, her wings, and even parts of her hair-it's visible through the fae marks, and best described as fluid light, calmly glowing at an intensity that won't harm the eyes, but is certainly nothing short of 'glowing' in its appearance. Right now the flowing shine shifts between gentle yellows, greens, blues...
Carly hovers, about two to three inches above the ground, and beams.] Oh~! You must be the one on the radio~! [She cheers, waving.] Hello~!
no subject
Because she glows, and Victor's never in his life seen such a literal, colourful example of it. Beyond the feathers, odd legs, marks he doesn't understand, and... wings. Those are definitely wings.
It takes everything in him not to rubs his eyes to check that he's still awake, or to rub his temples and drive back the headache and increase in heart-rate as he processes how very little anything follows his understanding of reality. So instead he smiles, a bright, crowd ready affair, waving in return. )
Miss Nagisa! It's a pleasure to meet you in person. Thank you again for taking some of your time to point me in the right direction for the laundry machines. I was beginning to wonder if I should brush up on my hand washing abilities.
( While hopefully not terribly offending his roommate, but it's currently a moot point. He tries to keep his focus on her face. The rest is simply even more overwhelmingly, eyecatchingly much. )
no subject
...It's charmed to shapeshift to meet people's measurements~ It makes on the fly costuming really easy, so we won't have to call you in all the time for things, basically....
[She coughs, though.] D-Definitely no handwashing though..!! I don't think that's been a thing for a while here....
no subject
A mannequin that manages to take people's measurements. Okay. He heads over to Carly, forcing himself to relax his shoulders, sliding his eyes away. The glow is both mesmerizing and difficult to look at for too long. He chuckles, shaking his head. )
I imagine my costume designer would have appreciated something like that when I was filling out. How does it work?
no subject
It tastes awful Victor. And it works.
Carly, for her part, just pulls the faceless mannequin-which...looks more like an up-scaled artist's dummy- and floats to the side.] Just stay right there-all it needs you to do, is stand in range for the 'scan'!
[Well that sounds nice and technological at least, this is probably-]
HELLOOOOO FABULOUS~
[why]
no subject
For a scan?
( So help him, but he's thinking of airport security scanners even as Carly's suddenly shouting out HELLO FABULOUS. His eyebrows hike up, Victor holding still until he hears from Carly he can move again.
Still sounding technological on one level, but he's heard magic, and he's accepting it as an explanation even if he understands it not at all (and that drives him a little bonkers). )
no subject
And without pause, the wood seems to...shift. Shrink, even, or in some cases lengthen, until it matches Victor's body-shape perfectly.] Got it~!
Tadaaaah~! That's it! Now the mannequin has your size! Mannequin, this is 'Victor'! Keep that noted!
Naturally~
i'm so sorry lmadfs
Which might be why his fingers are pressed to his lips as all this happens, eyebrows hiked up high. )
Oh. Okay then. ( ... ) So about the laundry house--
LMFAO NO I LOVE THIS
Yes, yes, of course~! We're done here now after all, and we can walk and talk~! Just follow me... [She continues, floating toward the door.
(Wait, talk about what-)]
he doesn't know what to do with all this anymore LMAO
A man has priorities, after all.
He follows her back outside, glancing briefly skyward to simply take in anything visibly larger than himself, and as steady in its existence as the sky has usually been in his life. He breathes in, breathes out, and smiles at Carly once more as they move. )
Have you been with the carnival for long?
Rip Victor
But she's polite enough to answer questions as well, and moves at a decent walking pace rather than skipping off quick. They'll be heading toward the employee's lots in any case.] Since I've got those measurments, we should be able to get you some spare clothes if you need any now, [She explains, smiling.] Basic things-bed clothes, spare shirts and pants...towels...
Just let me know what you need, and you should be able to get it..! [It's nice right? ...Anyway.] Mmmm...there used to be people here way longer but... ....Three and a half years now~!
I like my job here a lot more than the one at home, ehehe... ...Plus there's new things to see, and new things to do.. [She beams.] It's really great!~
no subject
Right, right... spare pants and shirts would be wonderful. Is it possible to get something like a pullover? Or a sweatshirt? Towels... yes. Definitely necessary.
( He should say yes to bed clothes since he's not living alone, and since also it's rude to flash a roommate just because of a tendency to sleep in the nude or only his underwear. Adapting to circumstances out of respect for those he's around is common sense. (Where common sense fled with Yuri had more to do with what he never realised Yuri forgot, but that's neither here nor there.) )
As well as sleepwear, that's true. I'd love to be able to change into a fresh set of clothing after taking a proper shower. Those are the only bathing facilities here, correct?
( He tries not to look surprised at her three and a half years, but really... people do genuinely join the circus and just about anything back in his world. It's not so strange a life to be chosen, if one enjoyed the particulars of it.
Victor doesn't, but he also has things he wants and desires to return to, far outside of this. Would he have felt differently, before Yuri crashed into his arms? It's possible, he thinks. There's a possibility this might have seemed like a wonderful escape when he was in that liminal space of indecision and lacking inspiration, before Yuri's musicless rendition of Stammi Vicino went viral. )
I'm glad you enjoy what this place has to offer. I can see why it has its own appeal... I expect things are always some level of surprising, visiting so many new places, and experiencing what those places have to offer.
no subject
Each trailer has their own shower though, if that's what you mean; we have a hot spring but... Aheheheh...that's not for cleaning, obviously.... [wait what-]
Definitely surprising! [She carries on, not waiting for a reaction.] There was a place filled with nothing but giant birds you know!
no subject
( time to work out his off ice training schedule, even if he's going to face the potential horror of a year without being able to practice consistently on ice. not a pleasant prospect. he has too many people he's competing against who'll be in top form, and he won't be, and not because he'd been training Yuri the last nine months. )
Really?! A hot spring! ( no question about bathing: that's for soaking! ) Where's it located?
( the giant birds would be more impressive if not for a: Julien, b: Tyrannosaurus Featherrex, and c: also that giant eagle. Or Feathers. OR--okay, it's still impressive. just not as difficult for him to imagine as before. )
Did that mean everyone had to go around pretending to be giant birds themselves?
no subject
Now...the Robotland! That was different. We had to disguise ourselves for that one.... Some of us used cardboard I think...
no subject
( What kind of robots were in robotland?! This feels even more unbelievable than the rest, don't robots have sensors! For this nonsense! Science fiction has lied to him more than fairy tales and that's not fair! )
no subject
[She is LEAVING IT AT THAT HOOOOBOY!]
...Anyway, we're here now~! [CARLY YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT]
no subject
( He'd go with the redirection if that wasn't technically good to know, okay, what did poor planning win everyone? Meanwhile he looks at the laundry shack, nods, and feels at least one more sensible piece of the puzzle of his life slot into place.
Bless. )
no subject
[That said.] Anyway! Let's show you these machines! Make sure you can use them properly~ [INTO THE SHACK thank goodness it's not coin operated.]
no subject
and it's washers and dryers, and while he's looking around and pulling open the lid to a washing machine... )
Is there any soap that's kept in here, or...?
no subject
Anyway. She moves toward what looks to be some sort of dispenser with cups.] Right here! You just fill the cup, and go! You could probably get yourself better soap, or things like dryer sheets if you wanted though...the machines are pretty great at handling new things~
[They'd have to be, in a place like this after all.]
no subject
I might want to try and do that before we leave this city. Is there ever time before or after performances to try and get into town during performance week?
( Dryer sheets he's not so concerned with, and he has no Nice Unmentionables to worry about different means of washing about... no delicates. inwardly he sighs. this is not his ideal, but it is, unfortunately, currently his life. )
no subject
no subject
He sure hopes not, because that's not generally something he's great at doing, outside of when absolutely necessary.
For a day or so. )
Practice is sort of ongoing no matter how you look at it, though you're right about wanting to be ready for the next performance week, not this one. How are local currencies handled? Is there any kind of... exchange rate? Or...
( He closes the lid of the dryer, turning his face toward the rather difficult to focus on Carly. )
Are we paid in any wages that could be exchanged for local currency?
no subject
If we're in a location where an economy is in place, we get an allowance..! We do get some pay, that we can use around here of course, for rides, and so on....but mostly, you'll see an 'allowance'! Just enough to get things like special fast food, or see some museums, movies...that sort of thing!
You never know what you'll see after all! And sometimes, there's ways to make an extra dollar where we're stopped, too!
