[It's the first day after performance week, the first day they've had off since the night of that lakeside party - the one with all the fireworks, and food, and food fireworks. It's mid-afternoon in the carnival, late enough that most people are probably up by now; who knows what time schedule the space station is on, relatively speaking.]

Hello carnival! How are you all doing, I hope you are doing well! With plenty of plans for your leisure time!

So, uh, about why I'm calling you all...

Has anybody noticed any... changes, to their magic, since... Everything in Wismuth?

I mean...I figured out fire arrows, but I think that's just because I was using that spell so much...

Well, I'm surprised, anyway!

My bones normally are very stable. But this one just... fell apart on me. And, it looked awfully like... that dust.

I don't know! It looks like un-ordinary dust. Silvery, shimmery...

And no effect when I touch it? But it never did anything to me.

A bit. I seem to have retained one of the spells I could use as a Harbinger.

[His summoned bone was indeed similar, and completely by accident.]

But, uh, does it work the same as before?

An accident, mostly. [ He doesn't have to ask. It's not really a secret. ] Magic such as faerie magic and that of what we experienced in Wismuth seems based more on will than book learning and materials.

[ English magic leans more to the latter, so the difference is important. ]

And no, not exactly. Before I needed my cards to summon any particular spell. Obviously, I no longer have those... Is there something different about what you can still do?

Well... I guess that makes my usual magic more like faerie magic. [His Harbinger powers immediately tied into his normal ones easily enough.] It's all about will! And I never mess it up! Except, today...

One of my bones had no integrity at all. It just broke... into a suspicious, dust-like powder. Normally broken bones just fade away!

[Though, given the distressful times lately, it's not impossible for there to be some hiccups in his magic.]

Odd. [ Or, at least, if Papyrus considers it odd, one must assume it is. ] Did it feel like a failed... summon?

[ For lack of a better word. Childermass really only has experience with Sans' magic and very little of it at that. Whatever Papyrus can do, well, it'll just have to be educated guesses unless the skeleton explains further. ]

Though you would think even a failure would fade away.

I mean, it's not a failed summon. [Good enough terminology to get the point across.] It's still here, even without me trying to keep it! If every bone I ever made stuck around, without any effort...

[He goes quiet, haunted in a way that even admitting to possible Void contamination didn't inspire.]

There'd be enough bones for, for every dog from here to the ends of the earth!

[ That's... a really weird thing to say, Papyrus. Really, really weird. It has Childermass giving pause to frown at the radio before going on to ask, ]

You really do dislike dogs, don't you? [ But that's honestly just an aside. ] Well, so you summoned dust instead. Does it do anything?

[ just pushing down that pettiness at the fact that this is a cool magic Wismuth thing, Strange still isn't a bit bitter in the slightest..... ]

You know, I can see magic. If you're willing to give a demonstration, I can tell you if there's any trace of Creation or the Void in the spell.

I guess that's already happening... Yeah! You might as well come down too. But, what you just said... Creation or...?

[If it helps the bitterness any, Strange is accidentally giving Papyrus a lot of comfort here.]

Oh my god, it might not be Void stuff?!

Of course. I was around for that final fight: some of the Harbingers were Guardians at that point. It could certainly be that magic that lingered instead of the Void's!

Oh my god! You're right! It even happened to me, very briefly... That's the best news I've gotten all day!

[ aw yeeeah, points for Strange. Papyrus's mood is infectious and Strange can't help but preen a little. ]
