I'll assume no one made my obligatory bring a buddy announcement while I wasn't here, so this is that warning.

[ Ah. Cole doesn't need to creepily read Psi's feelings or memories to see that he's a bit annoyed by this. As was Childermass. As was Lambert. Maybe he should just take up knocking in general, it seems like it would make everybody happier. ]

I will, [ Cole simply says, with a nod. And...he doesn't really know what to do now! So, he awkwardly looks over at Psi, as if this will somehow spring up a conversation between the two of them. After a second or so passes, Cole very tentatively starts with, ]

More people are coming to my booth now?

[His annoyance fades, and amusement grows as silence stagnates between them.]

That's good.

[He'd say more, but he decides not to, wondering what sort of conversation topic Cole will try to bring up next.]

[ There's another small pause. ] It wasn't the girl. They only used her to bring him to the island. It was him all along.

[ the conversation topic Cole brings up next is cryptic bullshit right the hell out of nowhere. But right, they were talking about something else, weren't they? And really, now that Psi's here, Cole can ask him what he was thinking about earlier. ]

Should I knock for everybody?

[He's clearly puzzled by the mention of a girl, but puts his confusion aside in light of a question he actually can answer.]

I think most species prefer it. And they also prefer if the knocker waits for an answer before coming in.

If I were a different troll, I might have tried to attack you.

[He almost did actually, but he'd just come from a warzone of sorts.]

Anyway, what's this about a boy and a girl on an island together?

[ knock, wait for an answer, then enter. Got it, it's probably a carnival thing, he can definitely try to do that instead of his normal method of 'barge right the fuck in'. ]

How can you be a different troll? I thought you were just the Psiionic.

[ Cole's remark about the people on an island is straight up forgotten about as he focuses on this new problem: Cole taking Psi's words 100% literally. ]

[He shakes his head, letting out a laugh.]

I can't. That was just a hypothetical. That's why I said 'if.'

[ Makes sense! Cole gives Psi a little nod. Of course, that opens up a whole new series of questions (what other trolls were there? what were they like?) but Cole's focusing on the here and now. ]

You couldn't be the Psiionic if you were different anyway. A different Ginko could still be Ginko, but a different the Psiionic might not be the Psiionic.

[ A slightly convoluted way of saying 'you've got a title for a name, if you were different, you might have a different title ergo a different name.' Though, hmm, come to think of it... ]

A different Cole might not be Cole either.

[He basically gets what Cole is saying, re: titles, but his phrasing is so odd it's amusing. He's never sure how many people grasp the fact that Psionic isn't his given name, but it seems at least Cole gets it.]

Don't tell me Cole is a title.

[It's not long enough first of all.]

[ A combination of creepy telepathy plus Cole having a friend who goes by the Iron Bull helps explain how he guessed.

At the Psionic's statement, however, Cole shakes his head. ]

I'm not really Cole. I thought I was once. But they think of me as Cole, so that's what they call me.

[ Cole's a spirit who had a bit of an identity crisis and got his memories mixed up with a person. He's not the real Cole. He never was and never would be. But he thought he was for a while, so the name stuck. ]

[It seems like the kind of thing that has a more interesting story behind it, but Psi doesn't bother asking. It feels like asking Cole to explain anything is going to be more trouble than it's worth.]

Do you like being called Cole?

[ and thus Psi learns the first thing about getting info about Cole: just fuckin ask Lavellan or Solas. ]

I don't mind. It helps them so it happens.

[ Cole knows it's easier for certain members of the Inquisition to think of him as 'Cole' and not spirit, strange thing, odd boy, inhuman. Ergo, he doesn't mind being called Cole. ]

Do you like being called the Psionic?

[His grin widens into a smug look.]

I do, in fact. I wouldn't keep it if I didn't.

[Which he maybe should have realized meant Cole probably also liked being called 'Cole,' but Cole is a weirdo so whoever knows what the spirit is thinking.]

Titles are important on Alt- uh, where I'm from.

And you are the Psionic because you have psionics. [ Just like how the Iron Bull is the Iron Bull because his horns sort of look like a bull's.

Though come to think of it, Psionic has horns also. And large wings. Large, very nice, wasp sort of looking wings. ]

Did you have the wings before? You could have called yourself the Hornet instead.

[He lets out a loud surprised laugh, startled by the suggestion.]

I'm not the Psionic just because I have psionics. It's because...

[He lets out a huff, thinking of how to explain it.]

It's because I'm the Psionic. I'm the only one in my... group who is.

[And then he frowns again. It's still not quite right.]

I mean there are lots of Psionics who believe in the same message we're trying to get people talking about, but none of them travel with us, so. That's why.

[ That makes sense. Cole nods slightly. He's still a bundle of questions, however, as he asks, ]

Would you still be the Psionic if there was another psionic in your group?

[ Names are an interesting thing and Cole's an inquisitive spirit. The more he learns about why people do the things they do, the better. ]

[He stops to think about that one for a moment.]

It would depend. If they were already well known by another title then it's likely. It also depends on whether they joined before or after me.
