I guess I was just wondering if anyone here knew how to use a sword? Like, a real sword, for battle.

It seems traveling between dimensions can be more dangerous than I thought.

[She feels like she should have realized it a lot sooner, but she'd had other things to worry about.]

If something happened to me here before I could go back home I'd never forgive myself.

If that's the case, I would be willing to teach you to the best of my ability. I have never had a tutor before, but it is largely about memorizing movement and strength.

[A pause.] I assume if there is a training course there is training equipment...?

Mm, I'm not sure to be honest. I wasn't here for long before all that happened.

[All that being Portland, in this case. She felt like whatever she had learned about the carnival in her first few days were by now long forgotten.]

[It's hard for Marinette too, keeping those memories seperate. Her life in Portland feels like a dream now, but she could still remember them. She remembers holding the sword in her hand, flying out a window with Rita away from a monstrous plant. Yet now if she were to grip the hilt of a sword, she would feel completely out of her depth. Her mind couldn't reconcile those inconsistencies. Or rather, she didn't want to.]

I don't know... It just feels wrong not to.

I've had some training with 'real blades', but my focus hasn't exactly been on a normal sword.

You want to learn to fight? [Honestly he's a bit surprised, but Marinette definitely doesn't have a problem with standing up for herself and others most of the time... When he thinks about it, it does make sense.]

Fencing isn't really for fighting but I'd practice with you, if it helps. [Not that he probably really needs it, but his Father wouldn't be happy if he started doing poorly in his activities when he was done here.]

Looks like you've already got yourself a teacher. There should be some prop swords by the training yard you can borrow to get you started, but the first thing you're going to want to build up is your strength and form before you start swinging anything around.

[She can probably build her strength with weight training, but how can she practice her form? What did form even mean in this context?]

...I'm guessing you're not talking about paperwork.

Hah. If learning how to fight involved paperwork, I never would have gotten into it.

Form's everything to do with how you hold your body -- foot placement, stance, the angle at which you hold your sword. Sometimes what feels natural isn't the most efficient way to attack or defend yourself.

Heh. Well, you could say I'm pretty handy with a blade. Seeing as that's my day job.
