public channel - D148 - fae jargon 101

If anyone, older member or newer arrival, wants information on... [ oh lord, this is going to take a while. Strange sighs slightly before obviously reading off a list of terms he's written down. ] Arcadia, the Rose Queen, Ignatius, Nightshade, the Count of Crows, Frost, the Summer Court, the Winter Court, how faerie court hierarchies work, the Wyld Fae, or the Beast, then I'll be happy to tell you what I know. I picked up some knowledge from my time in Portland and through conversations with the fae here and, for obvious reasons, don't want to bore all of you with far too many details and speculations at once.

[ There's a pause, partly to catch his friggen breath, before Strange continues talking. ]

I can at least explain Portland, though--for our new arrivals, of course. It's a city where the carnival was recently trapped for a month. Many members had their memories altered and believed they lived in the city for their entire lives. It was a...trying experience.

[ Understatement of the century. Strange sighs, like he's steeling himself for what he's going to say next. ]

Portland had it's own set of fae, some of whom I mentioned in my previous list. Plenty of the carnival members have ill-will towards those fae, who seemed determined to vex us and ruin our lives during that month. And despite the fact that we've left that world, I've a feeling that we'll see those fae again. Now that the Severing's removed, they can travel to different worlds the same way the Ringmaster can. And it wouldn't surprise me if some tried to reclaim what or who they believe they lost.

[ how dramatic! And quite possibly the worst way to end a broadcast as Strange just flips the radio off then and there. He has absolutely no clue how to best END the broadcast so not being cryptic is officially for chumps. ]

You can call me whichever you like, [ said with a shrug. ] What should I call you?

[ because look, it is VERY HARD to guess genders of small children over the radio (especially when you've only interacted with a handful of small children to begin with in Strange's case) so he's got no idea if Reira's a Miss Akaba or a Mr. Akaba. ]

Hmmmm...Strange doesn't sound like a name so... Jonathan then! [Countdown to someone overhearing and laughing starts now-]

...Reira is okay.

[Also, it appears he gets to guess that one bit.]

What do you mean it doesn't sound like a name? It's my name, so of course it sounds like a name!

Strange is a word you use for weird things.

So I think if that before I think of a name.

Plenty of other words are also names. Forest, Black, Pole, and so on and so forth. We've a few carnival members with names that are other words as well--what would you call them?

[soft_focus]

Those also sound like words.

[This language lesson backfired Terribly.]

But they're also names. You're going to be terribly confused when you meet Joker, Scout, and Peridot if you aren't able to adjust to words being names.

[There is a pause, and-]

I've never heard of a Peridot.

The other things are words for people though, not describing words, so those are fine!

You haven't? [ hmm, how to explain this. ] It can either be a gemstone or the color of the gemstone. It's a light, greenish color.

[soft_focus]

Hmmmmm.

[Hmmm.] Is it just their name or are they a rock?

[OOPS]

It's her name.

[ Strange is still wrapping his head around the concept of gems but they can walk, they can move, they can lift couches, and they can yell at him, ergo they aren't rocks. ]

[soft_focus]

Mnn...

...It's still okay for a name I guess. It doesn't sound right if I say 'peridot peridot', but I can say 'strange Strange'....

[kingsroads]

Considering Peridot is peridot, I'm afraid it still fits.

[soft_focus]

You're the one who said peridot is 'green'. I don't even know what kind of green it would be, so I'm not thinking about weird things like that when I say it.

Strange still just sounds funny.

I just told you what sort of green she was!

[soft_focus]

I haven't seen it though.

[SEEING IS BELIEVING STRANGE but more importantly her understanding of what one person considers a particular shade of green is more or less that she's just not going to know if it's the right one or not until. Well. She sees it.]

Well you'll have to find her herself as we're talking over a radio.

[ slight problem, ya can't really show a specific color over audio ]

[Yes that Was the point she was also making here Strange-]

...Why don't I find you instead.

So you can just show me the color.

I don't own anything that color in the first place.

[soft_focus]

So you can't even find something anywhere that's the right green?

[kingsroads]

[ this fucking kid... ]

Why would I do that when Miss Peridot exists? It's easier to find her than find another object.

[soft_focus]

Because I don't know what they look like, or sound like, or where they are, but I know what you sound like.

So unless you find her to show me, it's not easier at all.

You know perfectly well what she looks like as I just told you! She's the green person!

[ And a liiittle bit of aggravation slips into Strange's tone. ]

And so are lots of faeries! You just told me a colour that has a special look that I don't know, and said that's all I need!
