public channel - D148 - fae jargon 101

If anyone, older member or newer arrival, wants information on... [ oh lord, this is going to take a while. Strange sighs slightly before obviously reading off a list of terms he's written down. ] Arcadia, the Rose Queen, Ignatius, Nightshade, the Count of Crows, Frost, the Summer Court, the Winter Court, how faerie court hierarchies work, the Wyld Fae, or the Beast, then I'll be happy to tell you what I know. I picked up some knowledge from my time in Portland and through conversations with the fae here and, for obvious reasons, don't want to bore all of you with far too many details and speculations at once.

[ There's a pause, partly to catch his friggen breath, before Strange continues talking. ]

I can at least explain Portland, though--for our new arrivals, of course. It's a city where the carnival was recently trapped for a month. Many members had their memories altered and believed they lived in the city for their entire lives. It was a...trying experience.

[ Understatement of the century. Strange sighs, like he's steeling himself for what he's going to say next. ]

Portland had it's own set of fae, some of whom I mentioned in my previous list. Plenty of the carnival members have ill-will towards those fae, who seemed determined to vex us and ruin our lives during that month. And despite the fact that we've left that world, I've a feeling that we'll see those fae again. Now that the Severing's removed, they can travel to different worlds the same way the Ringmaster can. And it wouldn't surprise me if some tried to reclaim what or who they believe they lost.

[ how dramatic! And quite possibly the worst way to end a broadcast as Strange just flips the radio off then and there. He has absolutely no clue how to best END the broadcast so not being cryptic is officially for chumps. ]

[ he is paying zero attention to the fact that the voice sounds like a small child! Because look, the carnival's weird, this might be a small child or it might be another weirdo space rock that SOUNDS like a small child. ]

The Beast, not a beast. It's a title, not a name. And it's also the Ringmaster.

Ummmmm. Thinking about it, did Ignatius get killed or just sort of nommed on, there? If he's alive he might be mad at, well, all of us, but me especially.

[ guess who was knocked unconscious for RM's big damn heroes moment. Hint: it's Strange. ]

Any details on how to vex and harm them in turn, would be appreciated. If they are to trouble us again I would like to provide them the warmest of welcomes.

Iron, silver, the power of the threshold. Of course, each has their own set of problems as well. Iron is harmful to those affected by fae magic just as much as it is to actual faeries, silver's silver, and any spell that draws upon the power of the threshold requires magical strength, knowledge, and there to actually be a threshold in the first place.

I have met few willing to talk about that occurance. [Not that he blames anyone, just there's clearly a ton of context he has missed fhe hell out on.

Maybe signing that contract was a bad decision, but it's bad decision he's stuck with now.] I assume the level of danger is expected to be along the lines of 'severe' should they give chase?

That's part of the reason why I started this conversation to begin with. I was perfectly fine not talking about it when it was just the carnival members, but now that some new arrivals have shown up...well, you lot deserve to know what happened.

[ Even though part of Strange still kind of desperately wants to not talk about it still. ]

Well, now you're stuck answering questions for the next week or so.

[ Strange actually laughs a bit at Lambert's response. ]

Someone has to! Besides, what's the use of gossip if you don't share it?

[ because that's totally what this is, just gossip, not paranoia or forcing everybody to acknowledge the elephant in the room, nope, just friendly gossip. ]

Do you know if the demons can leave, too?

[Tamaki had almost zero contact with the fae of Portland, and while he knows that they're bad news from some others, he doesn't really have the true context for this to be all that concerning. Demons, though. They eat souls.]

[ Whereas Strange had almost zero contact with the demons of Portland. So, he's got to admit, ]

You know, I have no idea.

WOW, thanks for making this post public... [grumbling:] Like I didn't have enough to worry about already.

Someone's got to talk about this--especially since it seems no one else has.

[ says the person who was perfectly fine not talking about it until new people showed up. ]

[Rita listens quietly for the duration of the broadcast. Information on those fae... She wonders what Strange might know that she doesn't. But it doesn't matter all that much, does it? After all, they're never going to see them again...

...except, now Strange is saying that they very well may see them again.]

What the hell!? You're saying they'll come after us? [It does make sense... in fact, it was Rita herself (or another Rita, it's hard to really say) who said the fae wouldn't give up until they got what they thought belonged to them...]

I'm saying it's a possibility! Some of the Summer Court were quite determined to see us reclaimed, even at the end of it all.

[ Even as there was a literal battle over who's got the ritual whatever to send people home. ]

The carnival isn't subtle. I'm certain they could find us if they chose to.

Well, I suppose, if you must. But I do hope you'll have some discretion.

Half of what I know is idle gossip to begin with, freely given by the Summer Fae. But I--considering my actions in Portland, I feel I must talk about this.

So that's why everyone's been acting so strangely since she woke up.]

I don't recall anything about a 'Portland'... do you really think they might try to follow us?

[Oh gosh it's the vampires all over again.]

I do. [ because he's hella paranoid and heckin scared. :c ]

I'm certain the Ringmaster can throw them off our scent as long as we remain in the carnival grounds. The problem, of course, is that we're a rubbish carnival if we remain in one place.

So hold up. We got stuck in Portland because of the Severing, right?

Actually? I'm not so sure about that. I don't know the ins and outs of that world's magic but while the Severing was in place, we shouldn't have gotten stuck in Portland to begin with.

I'm afraid I don't know. [ because he spent all his time in the Portland plot either with mages or with the Summer Court. ]

I've no idea if the angels or demons can travel between worlds the way that the fae can. Likewise, I don't know enough about either group to even begin to form a theory about that.

Maybe we should have had a meeting. [Your voice is going to get hoarse having the same conversion 20 times, Strange.] This is pretty important for everyone, right?

It is, [ he admits, with a little sigh. ] I've already had one request for a written summary, perhaps I should make more.

[ though without any pictures because you are a grown-ass man, Lambert, you do not need pictures to read things. ]

[He already hates this thing and he stumbled onto this by accident but he's grateful. Strange might pick up on a man's voice that quickly goes away. It'll take him a second to understand what he needs to do to keep his voice going.]

Here I was starting to wonder if anyone would talk about it at all. I was given a warning things could get out of hand here 'like last month' but when I inquired no one would tell me exactly what happened. Thank you, good sir.

And why wouldn't it surprise you, Mr. Strange? Could be they're as done with us as we are with them.

I doubt it. I've a nasty feeling some of the fae are more possessive than we realize. After all, the Rose Queen went to extraordinary lengths to reclaim her changelings back in Portland.
