[ There are a lot of things people need to do right now: help the Prince's servants get resettled, get started on figuring out who can work on a cure for the petrification, deal with the trauma of dying in a hopefully healthy and non-self-destructive way, show the new people the ropes of what the Carnival has to work with.

Instead, in the morning of the second day since the Prince was defeated, anyone on the radio gets this: ]

So, I've been wondering.

[ The Nightrider's voice, for those who recognize it, has definitely been better. It's a low, hoarse rasp, and the pause at the end is not just for effect, but to actually catch his breath. ]

Just how old is everyone here, anyway? Here, I'll start. I'm ... pretty sure I'm almost sixty. [ A beat. ] ... Maybe.

[ Why did anyone let this man have his radio back again? ]

[ ooc; Lambert's flat on his back in the medical tent for this, feel free to bug him in person and threadjack each other at will. ]

[ Strange was indeed by the medical tent the first day because this is what happens when your bestie gets almost dead, you check on them something FIERCE. ]

Ah, Celandine? A pleasure to hear from you again. [ Okay! Lambert has his daemon now! That's a thing! Probably a magical thing: he got a leftover from Portland, it only makes sense that Lambert received a leftover from Greysol. ]

Is he still in the medical tent? Bite him if he tries to leave.

Hello, Strange. [ Celandine answers, a noticeable perk in her tired voice just talking to Strange. After all, he's one of their favorite people, and she remembers, like Lambert did, that he came. ]

He already tried. He hasn't figured out how to walk, so I wouldn't worry about him escaping.

Still, this is Lambert. Once he feels he's had enough time waiting, he'll try and escape anyway. Tell me if he tries to do so: I'm trying to piece out a spell and could use a guinea pig. Perhaps that would convince him to stay put.

[ he says, as he idly threatens part of Lambert's soul with harm to Lambert himself. ]

[ Lambert's absolutely going to make a bid to escape at the earliest opportunity, of course, but at that point Celandine will probably be accomplice rather than jailer. Still: ]

Is it a spell to get rid of the petrification?

[ It's said with, perhaps, entirely too much hope. ]

Of a sort. Breaking fae magic is tough but, as we know from our experiences at the Hunt, it can be done. I'm working on taking that spell and combining it with one of the many spells I know to move the earth, in an attempt to simply ask the rocks to leave.

The poison though, I admit I'm at a loss. Peridot's helping to organize a team that's best suited to find an antidote.

We want to help. [ The answer is immediate. ] With the antidote, that is. The rocks, you're on your own there.

Well, you and whoever else can work with magic. Did you know Susan's a sorcerer?

I did. We've talked about magic before. [ Though there's an awkward pause because yeah, Strange kind of murdered Susan in the Hunt. ]

Well, it can't hurt to ask.

His brother knows things, too. [ Guess who totally missed out on the dislike brewing there, it's Lambert. To be fair, he wasn't really in a position to observe body language. ]

His brother thinks I'm a bad influence. Still, if I can convince Susan to help, then Lauren should be close by.

Don't what? If Susan wants to help with the recovery efforts, I shan't stop him.

I understand that neither of you might want to hear from me at the moment. But if Susan wishes me to not talk to him, he needs to tell me himself.

My brother is thirteen. He doesn't need to tell his murderer anything on his own.

[ It is VERY OBVIOUS from his tone of voice that Strange is trying (and kind of failing!) to keep his words level. ]

You are only his brother, not his father, commanding officer, or teacher. As such, you cannot command or dictate what Susan does or does not do. What I said before still stands.

[And after hearing that he just laughs. It's loud, as though what Strange has said is truly hilarious. And it is, to Lauren it's absurd. The strangest thing he's heard Strange say yet, only proving to Lauren how little he really does know.]

Only his brother...

[He doesn't argue the point, though he could. He's tempted to, definitely. He doesn't. He wonders briefly if Strange ever had any siblings, but he assumes, given the man's response, the answer must be 'no.' His laughter slows to a stop.]

Let me rephrase...

Susan does not want to talk to you.

If you refuse to abide by his desires, I will ask others for assistance in detaining you.

When Susan does want to speak with you again, he will tell you himself. As you said, I cannot command him otherwise. No matter how distasteful I find your acquaintanceship.

[Who's been listening SHE'S BEEN LISTENING.]

....I trust that you're not lying to keep him safe, but.

....If you both want to avoid Strange, you should avoid me as well, at least.

[And that gives him pause. He's quiet a moment before responding.]
