This is…Herbert West: a contributor to the recent cure as you may recall as well as…your new Doctor. [He pauses to let that sink in, sounding really smug about it.] The Medical Team is still, small but as more experienced members join it has become more…evident that we do not have the resources we need to properly, treat the Carnival staff.

Namely: up to date medical documentation on you all—now, I made do before with what I had, during the process of constructing the cure but those involved may recall being asked various questions, questions which would have been unnecessary had the previous department been keeping your notes on file. Perhaps medical files aren’t required by, magical zebras but they are required by. Me. It is considerably easier for everyone when all previous knowledge doesn’t leave with the former physician—I’m sure you can agree. [He’s trying his best to sound congenial, definitely, but it mostly comes off as stilted as usual…maybe it counts that he’s trying?]

Today and tomorrow, myself and Mr Okumura will be available to perform physical examinations; any additional medical history you can provide is, welcome, and if you would prefer to attend on an alternate date, contact me to arrange a time.

[And then because so many people here are damned word weasels:] I have to insist all of you show up. Even if you’re healthy. Especially, if you’re healthy to give us an idea of your baseline state but we will, of course, treat any issues you have. Understand, it’s for the good of the Carnival and everyone’s…future well-being.

I am an exorcist, but I don't know how much of my training is going to be relevant here. [He says, handing over the clip board. It's a fairly straightforward form, the basics of name, age, medical history, family medical history, and a section on physical transformations since coming to the Carnival.]

An exorcist...? What, you deal with ghosts or something? [The word ghosts is said with a distinctly derisive tone, as if the very notion is ridiculous.]

[At the same time, however, Rita's quick to fill out the form. Name: Rita Mordio. Age: 15. Medical history: Various injuries, most treated with magic. No illnesses or chronic conditions. Family history: None. Transformations: Wings, feathers, tail, fae marks. She holds it out for him to take. Her handwriting is atrocious, but everything should be legible if he squints a little.]

And other demons as well. [Yukio clarifies, with the casual air of someone who's used to explaining it and also used to people not quite getting it.

He takes the clipboard back, and reads over it surprisingly quickly (he's a teacher, he's used to terrible handwriting).]

Thank you. Now I would like to check your height and weight, if you'll just step over here. [There's a scale, and a measuring tape he's going to use.]

Do you happen to know your blood type?

[He gets a weird look for not denying the ghost thing, but when he directs her, she casually complies and steps onto the scale.]

My blood type? No, I don't know it. [It's just not something people commonly know in Terca Lumireis.]

[Her height is 150cm, and her weight is average for her height... but adjusting for the extra appendages, she's probably close to being underweight.]

[He's used to ignoring weird looks.]

That's all right. I don't currently have any blood typing kits, but it doesn't matter much unless we need to do a blood transfusion.

[He's not an expert at general medicine, but just by looking at her he can tell she's on the thin side.

Have you... noticed any changes to your metabolism since you gained additional limbs?

[Rita just shrugs, seemingly unconcerned about the prospect of a blood transfusion. Would anyone's blood even be compatible with hers, if they're from different worlds? In truth, she doesn't really know how deep the similarities between her and Earth's humans run. Maybe it'd be interesting to find out, but...]

Hm? [Her brow furrows slightly as she considers that question.] No... I think it's about the same as always.

[He's in it now. He's talking to a girl about her weight in a professional capacity.

[Rita's face reddens slightly, and she clenches her teeth, seemingly ready to argue. She knows damn well that she's a little too short, a little too thin, a little too slow to develop...

But then Yukio kindly offers her an excuse for her stature, and she readily latches onto it.]

Do you feel comfortable working on increasing your calorie intake by yourself, or would you like me to come up with some dietary guidelines for you to follow?

might be turning just a little red himself. Look, he's a just-turned-sixteen boy, talking about a girl's weight is awkward.]

[He stays polite and professional, despite her outburst.]

I'm sure you can, but as your doctor I would like you to be more intentional about what you eat.

[Rita is looking a lot redder now.]

If there's anything else you need, then hurry up and get on with it!

You mentioned a magical or spiritual affliction?

[That gets her off the defensive, because oh yeah, she did mention that. Rita nods.]

Yeah... manticore venom, apparently. I was stung with it here. [She holds a hand over her right shoulder.] It caused petrification that slowly spread from the wound, and seemed to... I don't know, weaken the spirit in some way.

Do you think that there are any lingering spiritual aftereffects?

I don't think so... [Rita frowns. Would she know if there were...?]

For symptoms, it caused lethargy, malaise, confusion... Could be that it was used to make prisoners vulnerable to brainwashing.

I've definitely improved since using the antivenom we developed here, but by then, I'd been afflicted with it for over a week.

Please let me know if you start experiencing similar symptoms. I'll be sure to try and keep track of any returning symptoms in those who were cured.
