Nightrider Lambert here. In case you haven't heard by now: the things on Kerner Island eat settled daemons. So find somewhere else to take a daytrip. If you go anyway, do me a favor and keep your radio on you. That way we can all hear what it sounds like when a soul gets eaten.

[ He's about to leave it on that cheerfully sarcastic note, but then the faint sound of a female voice chimes in, scolding. For those who've met her, they'll recognize it as Lambert's daemon, the golden-eyed polecat that wears a hawk's shape outside the carnival. ]

Lambert! You didn't have to say it like that!

[ It doesn't seem to shame him one bit, though, since Lambert's going to keep right on talking: ]

For those of you whose daemon hasn't settled yet, that doesn't mean you get to be an idiot about going out there. Slipping and breaking your neck would be a stupid way to die. That said, if you're interested in doing some nightrunner work--

Come find us! [ The daemon interrupts again, louder this time, and there's a brief sound of a scuffle before her voice finally comes through loud and clear. Now it's Lambert who sounds more distant (and distinctly annoyed), though she talks right over him. ] We've got a map and other things you can use!

[ ooc: Lambert and his daemon will both be replying to his post (and probably fighting over the radio button, honestly). For ease of clarity, her responses will be in italics! ]

[contrary to Zangetsu's lighthearted creepiness, White's voice is just straight up unsettling.] We shall consume everything.

And why not? It's a great way to completely annihilate your enemies! Or, in this case, soul-eating things. They don't happen to have skull-like masks, do they?

Lucky for you, I don't think the carnival is about to get attacked by vampiric brussel sprouts.

[ But maybe if they ever go to a world with sentient vegetables, Zangetsu can get a chance to practice his extreme brussel sprout prejudices. ]

And no, no skull masks. There's not much to see, honestly.

But you can feel them. [ The thought is one that sobers up the daemon, shivering in revulsion. ]

Thank god and kami and whatever! Some vegetables are fine, but those ones taste like ass. [He listens to the description, and to the fear in the daemon's voice, and exchanges an unseen look with his own daemon. There's a sound of rustling fabric as she retreats into his shirt and then into the hole in his sternum] Interestin'. Might have to walk on over there and see what's up. It shouldn't be too dangerous if I leave White on the mainland.

On the mainland? Just how far apart can you be?

As far as we want, I think. Hollows are broken, rotten things born of suffering and misery. The pain of being separated from my soul can't hurt any more than it already does! Keheheheh!

[ Oookay then. Good to know the weirdness isn't an exclusively Portland thing so much as it is a general Zangetsu thing, though he does have some other questions. ]

A Hollow, huh? What does that make you, some kind of wraith?

[WEIRD IS HIS MIDDLE NAME. No, it isn't. He doesn't have one. He doesn't even have a last name.

Unless swords share their family names with their masters? Hm--!]

Well, I'm a pretty special one. But... more or less, yeah. That's why the things on the island interest me.

Hoping to find out they're related to you? [ When in doubt, snark is the answer. Though Lambert's genuinely curious now. ]

You'd have to be special. Most wraiths are pretty mindless. [ And okay, the quality of Zangetsu's mind might be questionable, but there's no doubt he has one. ]

What'd you call yourself? A Hollow?

Mostly we're hoping to find out if we can e̦̖̗̥a̙̫͍̜̥̰͞t͈̘̳̲ ̦̙t͏̻̠̟̦͚h͏̘̦͈̝e̵̯̪͔̭̺̜̝m̭̳͘

Yeah, that. And sure, to see if these are this world's equivalent to Hollows. They don't sound the same. But!! The same goes for Hollows as your "wraiths". The weak ones are mindless eating machines -- they usually go after their former loved ones first. You know, how when a wife dies and her husband goes a short time later? Ain't just heartbreak. But the stronger the Hollow, the more intelligent it becomes.

[ Gotta admire someone who knows what they want even if Lambert thinks it's totally stupid. ]

Sounds like a pain in the ass. [ Like, that's just facts man. Regular wraiths are bad enough as it is, dealing with ones that just munch through whoever is ... annoying. ]

So how does a Hollow get stronger -- and how strong does that make you?

Hehehe. You're tellin' me. [He has a bit of an identity crisis as it is, being both a Hollow AND a sword spirit made for killing Hollows. But he doesn't let it bother him too much]

Like I said, I'm a special case. Normal Hollows get stronger by eating human souls... then graduating to eating other Hollows, and Soul Reapers if they can get their paws on 'em. I 'spect I would get stronger if I ate those kinds of souls, too. I'd say I'm probably... Adjuchas level?

He doesn't know what that is.

Well I ain't gonna explain Hollow classes over the radio for everyone and their mom to hear. It ain't that interesting.
