[ There are a lot of things people need to do right now: help the Prince's servants get resettled, get started on figuring out who can work on a cure for the petrification, deal with the trauma of dying in a hopefully healthy and non-self-destructive way, show the new people the ropes of what the Carnival has to work with.

Instead, in the morning of the second day since the Prince was defeated, anyone on the radio gets this: ]

[ The Nightrider's voice, for those who recognize it, has definitely been better. It's a low, hoarse rasp, and the pause at the end is not just for effect, but to actually catch his breath. ]

Just how old is everyone here, anyway? Here, I'll start. I'm ... pretty sure I'm almost sixty. [ A beat. ] ... Maybe.

[ Why did anyone let this man have his radio back again? ]

[ ooc; Lambert's flat on his back in the medical tent for this, feel free to bug him in person and threadjack each other at will. ]

[Oh come on! He can't be serious! Except, before 9S can complain, his whine gets completely derailed by the second part of Celandine's statement.]

W-Wait, honorary human? Really? Is that even allowed?

Why not? [ It's obviously no big deal to Celandine, although 9S's obvious flustering seems to amuse her. ] There's no rule against it, anyway.

Well, I mean... I'm an android.

[He says it as if that somehow explains everything. Luckily, he follows it up with an actual explanation.]

We're modelled after our human creators, made to serve them. We can't be equals.

[ There's a bit of a pause. Celandine and Lambert knew 9S really liked humans before, and it was mostly amusing then, but that was before they got to know him a little better. Now... ]

And you're all right with that?

[What's with the pause... 9S frowns on the other end of the radio transmission. But he does sound geniune when he says--]

Of course! It's an honour to work for humans!

It sounds a little one-sided, I suppose.

Like you're a servant. [ Lambert says, more bluntly. And considering what they just came out of, the idea of servants is a wee bit distasteful. ... At least, when it's someone he doesn't think of as one. ]

I'm not like the Prince's servants, acting out of fear or forced loyalty. I serve because I want to.
