Months ago, during the Celebration, a few of us got together to talk about and compare the magic from our worlds. Well, it's been a while since then and we've certainly picked up more magicians, so why not revive that little discussion group?

[ he's phrasing it as a hypothetical but as Strange keeps barging on, there's nothing hypothetical about it: he is totally reviving that discussion group. ]

I've asked around and the smaller festival hall in the building closest to the carnival portal is available for our use. Anyone who's interested should meet there tonight, just after sundown, for an informal gathering to talk about magic. There will be space inside the festival hall and outside in the snow for anyone to demonstrate their techniques.

Likewise, anyone who wishes to learn about magic should come and visit as well. [ And there's a bit of a pause like Strange is trying his hardest to choose his words carefully. ] Magicians in the carnival have different types of magic drawing upon different techniques. While one school of thought might seem incomprehensible, another might seem as clear as day. This is a chance for those of us with magic to learn from each other and develop our skills and those of us who wish to learn magic to see what practice would best fit their needs.

[ There's a pause, because Strange has no idea how to end this. ] Sound off if you're coming, I suppose. Oh, and can someone bring snacks?

Do you have another name beyond 'Nightrider', or is that your preferred title?

You said you were a mage. You got a specialty?

Storm and spirit. I am also a Knight Enchanter, which means I create a sword out of magic.

Sounds handy. Maybe you can show some of that off if you turn up for this 'discussion group.'

How are you with sneaking around?

[ Since she is, well, a scout. That's ostensibly what she's supposed to do... ]

Out of practice. Most of my recent experience is more to do with leading small teams into situations where the majority of both sides were occupied elsewhere, and being discovered was less of an issue.

( she can go find cole if he needs references. )

Luckily for you, the mercenaries of the carnival have a lot of experience creating distractions. We're on a break right now, so it's a good chance to get up to speed.

Do you like cats?

Cats? I don't really have an opinion one way or another. Why?

You'll be working with one. And an android, if you know what that is.

How, exactly, does one work with a cat? And no, I don't.

He talks, so you'll have to ask him that yourself. He's new to the carnival, like you. [ The shrug is practically audible. ] Nines is the android, and Scout's ... Scout. You need to get settled, figure out how things go around here, you can ask 'em.

So the cat talks. That's the oddest thing I've heard all day. ( says the elf who can use magic in a fae carnival. c'mon lavellan. ) I'll do so, thank you.

Wait until you meet the walking plant. He's a mercenary, so you'll probably meet him sooner or later too.

Do they simply shuffle everyone they don't know what to do with off to you?

No, they shuffle them to the Acquisitioner.

[ Case in point, Cole got shuffled there. Ha ha. ]

This is a carnival, so nightrunner work's only part-time. Not everyone around here's a fighter.

With a name like that, I suppose it makes sense.

Yes, I noticed they gave me a primary assignment. Are fighters in the minority, then?

I'd say it's about half and half, if you're just talking about ability.

Is there another qualification that fighters and non-fighters should be judged upon?

[whattaprick]

There's a difference between being able to fight and being willing to, don't you think?

There's some truth to that, I'll give you. I'm simply not used to it being an option.

( at least it wasn't for her, and therefore that clearly applies to everything else, ever. )

Neither am I. So, that's how you end up with the Nightrider. Or the Warden.

There anything you need to know about the job?

Fair enough. ( the nod is in her tone of voice. ) No, I feel as if it's rather straightforward. Unless there's some catch that I have missed.
