This is…Herbert West: a contributor to the recent cure as you may recall as well as…your new Doctor. [He pauses to let that sink in, sounding really smug about it.] The Medical Team is still, small but as more experienced members join it has become more…evident that we do not have the resources we need to properly, treat the Carnival staff.

Namely: up to date medical documentation on you all—now, I made do before with what I had, during the process of constructing the cure but those involved may recall being asked various questions, questions which would have been unnecessary had the previous department been keeping your notes on file. Perhaps medical files aren’t required by, magical zebras but they are required by. Me. It is considerably easier for everyone when all previous knowledge doesn’t leave with the former physician—I’m sure you can agree. [He’s trying his best to sound congenial, definitely, but it mostly comes off as stilted as usual…maybe it counts that he’s trying?]

Today and tomorrow, myself and Mr Okumura will be available to perform physical examinations; any additional medical history you can provide is, welcome, and if you would prefer to attend on an alternate date, contact me to arrange a time.

[And then because so many people here are damned word weasels:] I have to insist all of you show up. Even if you’re healthy. Especially, if you’re healthy to give us an idea of your baseline state but we will, of course, treat any issues you have. Understand, it’s for the good of the Carnival and everyone’s…future well-being.

[Rin rolls his eyes, but does as asked, his more extreme changes reverting as soon as the sword is in the scabbard. They aren't even Yukio's problem to deal with, he doesn't understand why it makes him so tense]

You're the one who asked about any other changes!

[reflash]

That doesn't mean I needed to see them! You need to use your words, nii-san.

[flashover]

Words are hard... and a picture is worth a thousand words! [he grins] So... seeing it in real life must be worth, like, a million, right?

[reflash]

You know that's not how that works, nii-san. [He's tired, and it shows a lot more easily around Rin than around anyone else, especially now when he's not getting his regular amounts of caffeine. Withdrawls are no fun for anyone.

He adds a few notes to the clipboard, and then...]

The next part of the exam is measurements. I need to check your height and weight. [Is. Is Rin taller than him now? Rin better not be taller than him now.

what is he going to do if rin is taller than him??????????]

[flashover]

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it works. [he mumbles it, but he sounds sure of himself]

Measurements... ok!

[Sorry, Yukio, but when Rin stands from his chair and upright, his gangly, digitigrade legs add a good five or six inches to his height]

[reflash]

[He's going to pretend that Rin isn't taller. He's going to pretend that this isn't happening, the same way he's been pretending that the entire time he's been here.]

Don't stand on your toes, nii-san!

[flashover]

[eh...?] Uhm... Ok? I can... try. But I don't think that's how my feet work...

[he looks down at them and tries to puts his heels on the ground, but the way his tendons are now, it is quite uncomfortable. It also makes him shorter than his human form, due to shortened femurs. He grimaces] This isn't right...

[reflash]

Stay there. [He says, and goes to grab a measuring tape.

Then he comes back and... kind of gives up, just staring down at the tape in his hands.]

You aren't supposed to be taller than me.

[He's very clearly stressed, and that quiet addition to his commentary just proves it. There's a lot going on with him right now.]

[flashover]

[while Yukio walks away, Rin goes back to standing the way that's comfortable. Phew... He balances on one foot and rubs the "heel" part of the other foot.

But... he does offer Yukio a reassuring smile? He puts a hand on his shoulder]

Well, it's not like you've gotten any shorter! Remember! It's not how tall you are, it's how tall you feel! [he is helpful!]

[reflash]

Did dad tell you that? [Yukio asks, recovering his composure with a wry smile. It sounds like the sort of thing Father Fujimoto would have said if anyone had pointed out that Yukio was taller than him.]

[flashover]

He did! He also said that about age... And probably a few other things, too!

[reflash]

For a Doctor, he said a lot of things that didn't have anything to do with medical advice. [Yukio's tone isn't exactly fond, but he's not upset. It's been a while since he could talk so... lightly about Father Fujimoto.]

[flashover]

Well, he wasn't JUST a doctor. [Rin says, taking a seat nearby and grinning fondly at the memories] He was a priest, too! And a dad. And those are very dad things to say.

[reflash]

[Yukio's smile is a more practiced thing than Rin's grin, but it's still there. This is nice, this is easy and casual and not stressful at all.]

They are. He said a lot of things like that.

[flashover]

God. You remember some of those horrible puns he would say, sometimes? "Dad, I'm hungry!" "Hi hungry, I'm Dad!" [Rin recounts it with a laugh] Stuff like that. What a goof.

[reflash]

[Yukio shakes his head, fondly exasperated at the memory.]

He enjoyed it too much. [Shiro was the sort of person who played up his tendency towards absurdity at times, even with how serious he could be.]
