Public Channel - Important Announcement

[The day after the Ringmaster's public address, the public channel comes alive again, this time with the voice of Koel Babic. Her voice is quiet, but firm.]

Good morning, everyone. This is Koel Babic, your Head Cook.

Starting tomorrow, the Warden and the Ringmaster has authorized an instructor to hold weekly basic training classes, after carnival hours. All employees will be required to attend the first meeting in order for the instructor to ascertain everyone's defensive and offensive capabilities; after this first meeting, only those who do not pass a preliminary assessment will need to attend.

Oh, and the Supervisors - myself included - will be more than willing to personally escort you to the meeting, should you somehow conveniently forget to attend. I simply recommend you don't inconvenience them. Absence based on injury or illness will be accepted so long as our Doctor, Zecora, has confirmed its legitimacy, but you will be expected to attend the next meeting if that is the case.

[A brief pause.]

While that would be ideal, there are some Supervisors whose ability to gauge such a thing, even on a basic level, is lacking.

[By "some" she doesn't necessarily mean Psii, obviously.]

I have the feeling the instructor will be gauging things through a more hands-on demonstration.

I don't see why not. Keeping skills fresh is always a good idea.

As long as Zecora can attest to your absence, yes.

Anyone can hold a pencil. But you can't write with it unless you know how to.

The instructor is primarily looking at basics, but knowing magic won't hurt.

There are things about the Carnival that can make it potentially dangerous. The Agents are hardly the first beings to cause problems.

Knowing what to do when something like that happens again can, at the very least, make the difference between you getting yourself out of harm's way when you need to, and never making it back to your trailer to tell the tale.

It always depends on the manner of trouble one finds themselves in. The Ringmaster simply expects that everyone will be capable of defending themselves - whether or not the situation itself is potentially lethal.

And just what is this assessment going to entail? Because I can tell you right now, not everyone in this carnival is ever going to be much of a fighter.

It will be simple basic fighting and survival skills. Seeing if there's an understanding about improvisation. Things like that.

Ah. [ Okay, getting to watch Strange fail at a basic punch is going to be pretty great. ] That much should not be too difficult to learn if they're currently lacking, then.
