[ It had taken a bit to scour the book for any other bit of information once he'd gotten it back from one of the stupidest book specters he had to misfortune of running into but now that he has, here he is, reading the first bit over the radio.

Following that, he adds, asking, ]

Has anyone else found something regarding a mirror? I believe this may be one of the miracles but confirmation would be nice to have.

Is Darkness capitalized? [ Like, the Ringmaster made a good point about that. ] Then it isn't metaphorical at all. Perhaps there was something within her that she hated.

[ flip flip flip the paper... ] It is.

[ and Strange just sounds WORRYINGLY EXCITED about all this. ] If that's the case, then we need to focus on this mirror. Has anyone found anything about Lilith abandoning Eden or Eden falling into ruin or anything like that?

Not that I have heard yet. [ But Strange is excited and that makes Childermass suspicious. ] There is still one other Miracle. Why focus on the mirror if we learn of the other?

[kingsroads]

The mirror can remove darkness.

[ said in a tone of voice that implies Childermass should understand precisely what darkness Strange is talking about (hint, it's his curse) ]

[ Yeah, he does, oh how he does. ]

No. You do not know if it means that kind of darkness. It is regarding one's Soul [ obligatory capital letter ] and not some fairy curse, Strange.

We won't know until we try! We barely know anything about the mirror. Who's to say it can't do both?

[atouts]

And who's to say it can? The Miracles are not to be treated like toys. We've already seen that firsthand.

[kingsroads]

I don't know what I should be more offended by: the implication that I've forgotten what the Blue Rose did or the implication I would treat it like a toy to begin with!

[atouts]

Find offense wherever you want. I am warning you. If the Mirror can do anything with a soul, you are best off avoiding it. There's no fixing it if something goes wrong.

[kingsroads]

We both know that avoiding the Mirror won't happen. I'll just have to make sure nothing goes wrong.

And just how do you propose to do that?

Practicing more with my reflection magic, of course. That and going in with a plan. The problem with the Blue Rose was that certain people didn't know what they were doing. [ watch in amazement as Strange throws a preteen under the bus ] This will be different.

So what's the plan? Somehow I don't think breaking the thing with a hundred birds is going to do the trick.

Get a closer view, analyze the thing, have Rita or someone else who can dispel magic at the ready, then try to use my reflection magic to work with the mirror. I've figured out a spell where I can interact with mirrors more directly than simply using them as a door: I just need to practice it more to get it to work with larger sizes.

Of course, this all depends on the size of the thing. I'll have to shift plans if it's a Silver Handmirror.

You're cursed to be trapped in a literal pillar of darkness that's literally killing you, you summoned a winter fae who covered the carnival in snow, and you made a contract with Nightshade.

England must have a pretty different definition of 'luck.'

You got possessed by a primal force of nature, were kidnapped by the Prince, turned to stone by the Prince, and then turned into an animal by the Prince, said animal had to be murdered, and then you were attacked by Nightshade and wounded by iron as a Star Guardian. Childermass was enthralled by Agents in the Matrix, kidnapped and used as a catalyst for a fae ritual, and then enthralled by the Void. [ and he's also cursed but Strange knows Childermass probably wants that to be quiet, so he's not mentioning it. ] And this is before the various indignities that both of you had to suffer before coming to the carnival.

Do I need to go on, because I certainly can.

Maybe I'm not just thrilled to find out the new and exciting ways a fae artifact could screw us over because Jonathan Strange wanted to prove he had the biggest magic dick of all, huh?

And my point still stands: we won't know if the Mirror would screw us over or not unless we actually use it.

I don't have a death wish, I just know my death odds. Besides, I've got insurance now, so you shouldn't have any complaints there.

You heard Rita, didn't you? Sounds like a recipe for screwing us to me. What are we going to do, make the Rose Queen look into it and 'bend her heart' so she suddenly decides we're her best friends?

[ Because you know, they are supposed to be using this shit for the Carnival, and not at all for whatever self-serving purpose Strange might possibly have in mind, right? ]

If your insurance is the same as mine, then at the rate you're going, you'll use it within a month.

[ Since Lambert KEEPS ALMOST DYING. And consider this: Strange is selfish and is putting himself first. ]

There's no way we'd even let the Rose Queen see the Mirror once we obtain it. We should use it to help ourselves instead of trying to go on the offensive.
