[ rhys is usually pretty good with electronics but it takes him a little bit of time to figure out how to work this thing. it used to be so much easier. hyperion was a lot of things but technologically deficient it was not. ]
So, I gather things are still going on. Or maybe they're winding down? I can't tell because I've been stuck here the whole time.
[ he was still hanging out at the carnival, staying out of things because this was all a little too much for a guy who still considered him new. ]
Anyone need anything from back here? Laundry? Food? Hugs and kisses?
[ there would be no guarantee that he'd give anything that he offered. hey, he wanted to look good, not work too much. ]
I've got calluses on my hands from all the sweeping I've been doing because there's really nothing else to be done. That's how bored I am.
[ so, come back soon, ya'll. ]
Hey, do I get to give myself a promotion if ya'll are too busy? I've been doing super good work!
[ quit while you're ahead, rhys. ]

[Child, no-]
Umn... ...If you're bored, why aren't you helping to make the story for defending everything though? We can't do that one alone.
no subject
[ yeah, that was some extra amazing sweeping there, rhys. good job. ]
I guess I thought staying out the way would be more beneficial. I tried to help earlier and got told to stay put.
[ by a few people. he'd listened. see how he'd listened? ]
People are defending themselves with a story? No guns or knives or cool things like that?
no subject
...We're supposed to make the story here, [She adds. You can indeed help, AND stay put! Magic.] ...But we're in a library, and we're not supposed to attack, so we have to make the story protect everything, not attack things!
Otherwise, I guess knives would help... ...but it's probably better with shields right now.
no subject
[ he did, don't let him fool you. ]
I just thought I should be recognized for my attention to detail. I've managed to clean a lot of dirt. I just thought recognition wouldn't be out of the question.
[ of course he did. of course he did. ]
I -- obviously I've missed a lot.
[ that was a kind way to say he was confused. ]
I don't have a knife. I have arm that can zap people and an eye that can give me information. But, I bet you could whittle a knife from wood or something.
[ he was a suggestion machine today! ]

...Anyway. Making stories just means making stories. Like saying 'The maze was big, and tall! But anyone who was friends with the Ringmaster could come through easy!'. You don't have to make a knife from something real.
no subject
[ he was pretty sure that was how it worked. ]
So, you guys are in there, just making up any story? I could say 'once upon a time, I ate a fish and got sick and died' and that would be good enough?
[ swell job there, rhys, swell job. ]
no subject
No, I'm sitting beside the gate, at one of the games. I said we're making the story from inside, didn't I?
[She totally did. Anyway.] It has to be a story that makes sense. I guess that makes sense, but you probably shouldn't do that...dying isn't a good idea at all.
[She's also taking that Very Seriously.]

[His tone seems less teasing this time around. He's kind of tired from the rescue mostly from the mental strain.] I could use a sandwich and perhaps a dozen apples from the Cookhouse.

Where are you?
[ he wasn't going to be walking all over the place loaded down with food, okay. ]
no subject
In front of the medical tent next to the giant sleeping skeleton dog.

[ it was something he needed to know so he could decide whether to make a smart alec comment about tyki having his own legs or whether he was going to give in and actually do this.
he didn't want to be known as both a pup and an errand boy. one of those was enough. ]

[It's kind of sweet and he'll snort gently at the way it sounds. If anything, nicknames usually turn into terms of endearment with Tyki but unless someone knew him well enough it might take considerable time to tell the difference. ]

[ ...because then there really isn't anyone left, now is there? Although thanks to Childermass's tendency to sound blandly deadpan about nearly everything, whether he's joking or not may be a little hard to figure out. ]
no subject
[ don't sound so upset about that, rhys. the man's alive and you should be glad.
he forces a grin. ]
I hope you're alive and all. I don't think I could handle talking ghosts right about now.
no subject
[ Not that he's judging anyone for that. That library is the opposite of safe. ]
But if you really are looking for something without a broom to do, you could always make sure the medical tent has enough clean linen in it. I've been watching the borders of the carnival, so I can't say I've bothered with checking that myself.
no subject
[ that was a decent suggestion and one he'd probably even agree to do though he couldn't help but wonder how much he'd need to bring. ]
Sounds easy enough. And a lot easier on my hands. I'm getting calluses! Even the robotic hand is getting rough skin and it's robotic!
[ cry more, rhys. ]
You seen anything interesting?
no subject
[ Another android? Like 9S? Or something else? Well, the carnival gets a lot of different people. It wouldn't be a great shock. ]
And no, nothing yet. I can only hope it stays that way. The carnival defenses are usually good about denying entrance but these are court fae. There's no telling what they can get up to.
no subject
[ not that his modifications were doing him much good right now. they looked cool but that was about it. ]
What are the defenses? Anyone know for sure?
no subject
[ But what's some old timey Englishman know about robotic hands, anyway? ]
Though as far as defenses go, the biggest one we can rely on is the Ringmaster denying entry to any outsiders. Her realm, her rules. That doesn't mean someone else might not try breaking in, of course, but it would take some effort to.
