[ rhys is usually pretty good with electronics but it takes him a little bit of time to figure out how to work this thing. it used to be so much easier. hyperion was a lot of things but technologically deficient it was not. ]

So, I gather things are still going on. Or maybe they're winding down? I can't tell because I've been stuck here the whole time.

[ he was still hanging out at the carnival, staying out of things because this was all a little too much for a guy who still considered him new. ]

Anyone need anything from back here? Laundry? Food? Hugs and kisses?

[ there would be no guarantee that he'd give anything that he offered. hey, he wanted to look good, not work too much. ]

I've got calluses on my hands from all the sweeping I've been doing because there's really nothing else to be done. That's how bored I am.

That's not being confident, that's being just wanting to be in charge. [Or she's pretty sure it is, anyway, since promotions always seemed to be terms used for people getting Really Important Jobs that involved Telling People What To Do.]

...We're supposed to make the story here, [She adds. You can indeed help, AND stay put! Magic.] ...But we're in a library, and we're not supposed to attack, so we have to make the story protect everything, not attack things!

Otherwise, I guess knives would help... ...but it's probably better with shields right now.

I just thought I should be recognized for my attention to detail. I've managed to clean a lot of dirt. I just thought recognition wouldn't be out of the question.

...Anyway. Making stories just means making stories. Like saying 'The maze was big, and tall! But anyone who was friends with the Ringmaster could come through easy!'. You don't have to make a knife from something real.

[ it was something he needed to know so he could decide whether to make a smart alec comment about tyki having his own legs or whether he was going to give in and actually do this.

he didn't want to be known as both a pup and an errand boy. one of those was enough. ]

A little but nothing truly serious. Nothing that won't heal. Are you concerned?

[It's kind of sweet and he'll snort gently at the way it sounds. If anything, nicknames usually turn into terms of endearment with Tyki but unless someone knew him well enough it might take considerable time to tell the difference. ]

You get to give yourself a promotion if everyone else dies.

[ ...because then there really isn't anyone left, now is there? Although thanks to Childermass's tendency to sound blandly deadpan about nearly everything, whether he's joking or not may be a little hard to figure out. ]

But if you really are looking for something without a broom to do, you could always make sure the medical tent has enough clean linen in it. I've been watching the borders of the carnival, so I can't say I've bothered with checking that myself.

[ Another android? Like 9S? Or something else? Well, the carnival gets a lot of different people. It wouldn't be a great shock. ]

And no, nothing yet. I can only hope it stays that way. The carnival defenses are usually good about denying entrance but these are court fae. There's no telling what they can get up to.

Yeah. Robotic. Took me about five paychecks to afford and letting them cut my own arm off was a little...painful but worth it.

[ not that his modifications were doing him much good right now. they looked cool but that was about it. ]

What are the defenses? Anyone know for sure?

Hm. Sounds... ill-advised.

[ But what's some old timey Englishman know about robotic hands, anyway? ]

Though as far as defenses go, the biggest one we can rely on is the Ringmaster denying entry to any outsiders. Her realm, her rules. That doesn't mean someone else might not try breaking in, of course, but it would take some effort to.
