Day 64, Public Channel

[ After the Ringmaster's finished kicking everyone out and the tent arrangements are more or less settled... ]

So, I'm up. [ Short and to the point. ] Heard people were yelling at my nightrunners. You wanna yell about it some more, you can come yell at me.

[ That's it, that's the post. ]

DAY 61: PUBLIC CHANNEL

[Silence, for a few seconds, as though someone is holding down the talk button without saying anything. It goes away for only a moment, only for the Psionic's voice to spring out the next second, at only about half of his usually positive tone.]

Well, normally this is when I'd make the labor department check-in... But, since some of you may be incapacitated in some way. I'm going to be seeking you all out individually so we can have a good long talk face to face.

Since you already know there's no escape you might as well make this easy for all of us and tell me where you are now.

If you aren't in labor... I'd still like a chance to check in with you, in person or otherwise, but I can't make you if you don't work under me.
Just know that I can be very persistent.

[Ask anyone. Really.]

[Public Channel] Radio Mingle, Day 48+ after closing time

'evening, Carnival!

Since we'll want ta help each other out while we're out here in the stacks, 'n since not all of us have been here years or however long you vets have been hanging in there, why don't ya introduce yourselves before ya read off anything interesting ya've found? Seems like a good time ta get ta know each other, right~?

I'll start!

Shima Renzou, reporting! And rright nnoowww.. [A pause and there's a shuffling of loose papers, possibly being rolled on or swum through.] I've found the biggest mountain of old newspaper clippings I've ever seen. Do Fae have newspapers? Ah, some of it might be poems--let's see...

"A few young sages one bright day..."

'Sages' is promising, right?

"Disputed, doth an old tale say,
Which is the prettiest part of women:"

Oooh...

"Some said the cheeks, and some the eyes,
And so they sought the beauteous Lais,
And asked her to award the prize.
The lady said, perhaps displeased,
These thoughts I cannot understand.

"If you could have them where you pleased,
I wonder where you'd put your hand?
'Twould be, you would see,
On their..."

...Oops, ehehe! I can't say that out loud ♥

((ooc: Mingle! This post is for sharing readings with everyone--dumb stuff, little plot stuff, 'anonymous' CR-related stuff to accidentally embarrass people in the carnival if you've found something on them, whatever your character might put on the air. Thread jumping encouraged! Shima will respond to anyone to who addresses him directly, feel free to show up just to roll your eyes at him.))

[PUBLIC] Day 42

I'll assume no one made my obligatory bring a buddy announcement while I wasn't here, so this is that warning.

Didya miss me?

[LABOR CHANNEL]

Mandatory check-in, whether I know you or not.

If anybody's been slacking tell me and I'll work out a proper punishment.

Public Channel | S2;D4

This is…Herbert West: a contributor to the recent cure as you may recall as well as…your new Doctor. [He pauses to let that sink in, sounding really smug about it.] The Medical Team is still, small but as more experienced members join it has become more…evident that we do not have the resources we need to properly, treat the Carnival staff.

Namely: up to date medical documentation on you all—now, I made do before with what I had, during the process of constructing the cure but those involved may recall being asked various questions, questions which would have been unnecessary had the previous department been keeping your notes on file. Perhaps medical files aren’t required by, magical zebras but they are required by. Me. It is considerably easier for everyone when all previous knowledge doesn’t leave with the former physician—I’m sure you can agree. [He’s trying his best to sound congenial, definitely, but it mostly comes off as stilted as usual…maybe it counts that he’s trying?]

Today and tomorrow, myself and Mr Okumura will be available to perform physical examinations; any additional medical history you can provide is, welcome, and if you would prefer to attend on an alternate date, contact me to arrange a time.

[And then because so many people here are damned word weasels:] I have to insist all of you show up. Even if you’re healthy. Especially, if you’re healthy to give us an idea of your baseline state but we will, of course, treat any issues you have. Understand, it’s for the good of the Carnival and everyone’s…future well-being.

[ooc: Make sure to help me out by posting anything you think of to the med tent info post. Also, Herbert is almost literally always in the med tent during daytime hours but let us know if you have an ooc preference for checkups.]

Public channel, S2;D4

[All right, Alphys, you can do this. It's just like talking on the phone- no wait she hates talking on the phone.

There's a few deep breaths before she finally addresses everyone.]

U-uhh... heeey? This is Alphys, w-w-with engineering? I was just wondering, uh, if anyone here likes... anime...? I have a whole bunch of DVDs now, s-s-so I was thinking that maybe it'd be fun to have, like, a g-group watch? I-I mean! Unless everybody's really busy getting ready for the next show!

S-so, uh, I'm in trailer 20, if you wanna stop by and pick something out that looks fun to watch? I'm not sure what all I even have right now- it was a REALLY big box of DVDs! So, uhh... okaybye! [CLICK]

B1, Day 2 [public channel]

[ There are a lot of things people need to do right now: help the Prince's servants get resettled, get started on figuring out who can work on a cure for the petrification, deal with the trauma of dying in a hopefully healthy and non-self-destructive way, show the new people the ropes of what the Carnival has to work with.

Instead, in the morning of the second day since the Prince was defeated, anyone on the radio gets this: ]

So, I've been wondering.

[ The Nightrider's voice, for those who recognize it, has definitely been better. It's a low, hoarse rasp, and the pause at the end is not just for effect, but to actually catch his breath. ]

Just how old is everyone here, anyway? Here, I'll start. I'm ... pretty sure I'm almost sixty. [ A beat. ] ... Maybe.

[ Why did anyone let this man have his radio back again? ]

[ ooc; Lambert's flat on his back in the medical tent for this, feel free to bug him in person and threadjack each other at will. ]

PUBLIC CHANNEL [D176, EVENING]

[It's evening, the Ringmaster reconnected one of the islands to the Carnival so never-kidnapped people can go back and forth, and the Prince still has a lot of captives inside that big stone fortress. Captives without cell phones or radios, so there's almost no way for information to get out. But even though the thick stone, things can happen over there that those outside notice pretty quickly. Especially given reason to think about the person in question.

The radio crackles on, then turns off. A full minute passes before he tries again.]

Does... Wait, I need to be mannerly first.

Hello, everyone! Does anybody know much about, well, sudden onset amnesia? Or, cures for it? I think... I'm getting worse.

DAY 173: PRE-BREAKFAST, SUPERVISOR CHANNEL

[ Lambert's out of better ideas. With the Warden (probably) in the Prince's hands, even if it risks panicking his more easily riled colleagues, who will almost certainly notice Sans missing at breakfast ... he doesn't have a choice.

By the time this message comes on the radio, there's only about ten minutes until they have to be harried off to breakfast, and that's pushing it. Nonetheless, he's got to make an effort: ]

Hey. I need a second opinion on this outfit. Can you come by my room?

[ However, he won't be replying on the supervisor channel even if he's questioned. Take a hint, guys! ]

THE WARDEN AND NIGHTRIDER ARE HERE (D170)

[Sans is blue.]
[Lambert is dark red.]

[ Supervisors’ Channel ] )

[ Public Channel ]

[ Lambert’s voice is terse, and irritable: ]

Our next stop’s called Heartstone Manor. We’re going to go over some ground rules to make everyone's life, especially mine, a lot easier.

[Sans is also here.]

The RM has already covered a lot of this in her announcement, but it is officially our jobs to make sure that it sinks in. Dealt with True Fae before? Then you know this isn’t a joke. Yes, your fashion sense and table etiquette are now a matter of life and death. This is me, Sans, telling you to take this seriously. Hopefully that means something to you.

To summarize the gist of what was said, here are some basic RULES. The Nightrider and I will be watching. So, even if the Prince doesn’t catch you, we will.

[Sans recites “The Rules” like he’s just whipped out a pair of reading glasses and is quoting them from an official document:]

DO:

  • Follow the daily schedule
  • Follow dress code
  • Be polite to The Prince and his servants
  • Keep your radio on you

DON’T:

  • Whine about everything
  • Seed rebellion or talk about rules breaking on the network
  • Make any deals or promises to other fae servants
  • Lay any hard disses on The Prince, ever, under any circumstances
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff: this is gunna grate on a lot of us, so just focus on the end goal… which is not dying

Don’t mess it up.

That, too.

Public Channel - Night 158

Right, is anyone else's 'new friend' huge?

That confusion aside, please remember if you are going to be exploring unknown worlds to do so with a buddy. And no, your newfound animal companion does not count.

Labor crew, mandatory check in. Find me before I find you. That is a threat, not a suggestion.

public channel - D148 - fae jargon 101

If anyone, older member or newer arrival, wants information on... [ oh lord, this is going to take a while. Strange sighs slightly before obviously reading off a list of terms he's written down. ] Arcadia, the Rose Queen, Ignatius, Nightshade, the Count of Crows, Frost, the Summer Court, the Winter Court, how faerie court hierarchies work, the Wyld Fae, or the Beast, then I'll be happy to tell you what I know. I picked up some knowledge from my time in Portland and through conversations with the fae here and, for obvious reasons, don't want to bore all of you with far too many details and speculations at once.

[ There's a pause, partly to catch his friggen breath, before Strange continues talking. ]

I can at least explain Portland, though--for our new arrivals, of course. It's a city where the carnival was recently trapped for a month. Many members had their memories altered and believed they lived in the city for their entire lives. It was a...trying experience.

[ Understatement of the century. Strange sighs, like he's steeling himself for what he's going to say next. ]

Portland had it's own set of fae, some of whom I mentioned in my previous list. Plenty of the carnival members have ill-will towards those fae, who seemed determined to vex us and ruin our lives during that month. And despite the fact that we've left that world, I've a feeling that we'll see those fae again. Now that the Severing's removed, they can travel to different worlds the same way the Ringmaster can. And it wouldn't surprise me if some tried to reclaim what or who they believe they lost.

[ how dramatic! And quite possibly the worst way to end a broadcast as Strange just flips the radio off then and there. He has absolutely no clue how to best END the broadcast so not being cryptic is officially for chumps. ]

144.98750 - D138; So roughly thirty minutes or so after the Ringmaster's address...

If there are any supervisors still awake and standing, would you please make your way to the Big Top? The Ringmaster appears to have died.

[ —and turned into an egg, which is something he should really include, but he's tired. Sounds it, too, although what he isn't sounding on top of that is worried, since this is all said in a very matter-of-fact way. ]

[144.98750] RINGMASTER'S FOURTH ADDRESS (D138)

[This message will go out about fifteen minutes after arriving in the carnival, while everyone is still waking up and recovering. The Ringmaster sounds far more subdued than normal - like maybe she's tired, or sick, or perhaps just sad.]

That... wasn't what I expected to happen.

[There is a long pause, and then she sighs.]

I imagine you all have some questions. I don't have time to address all of them now, but I can attempt the most important one. Who you were there isn't who you are now. It isn't a creature entirely separate from you, either. They are a reflection of your identity - they are who you could be. Who you could have been. The reality of circumstance and choice is too complex to figure out all the factors that changed you, but in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Use these memories to guide you, not to demean you. Allow them to inform your future, but not rule it. You are, as ever, all of what you choose to be.

Please be polite to our hosts. She didn't know know I was coming. Bye for now.

PUBLIC CHANNEL -- DAY 138

[He feels like shit, but he is still a supervisor...]

Mandatory check-in.

Name, department, and health status.

PUBLIC CHANNEL

The Psionic here with a very important announcement.

The sense of camaraderie in our department is at an all time low. So, to fix this, attendance at Rex the Rat's birthday party is now mandatory for all Labor Department members. Also I will be bringing twister and you absolutely will have to play.

Chiaki may have gotten out of planning, but Lars, don't think you won't have to make the food still. And I think we have someone new so if your name is Adrien and you're listening to this, please go ahead and publicly introduce yourself. Yes you will have to come to the party.

If anyone knows any party games that will force people to get up close and personal, I'm open to suggestions.
kingsroads: (what a creepyass house)
[personal profile] kingsroads2017-05-17 12:40 pm

public channel, day 100

[ When Strange starts talking, it's after a pause, like he's mulling over his words before he says them. ]

I think it's obvious that the realm the carnival resides in is exceedingly magical. People can learn spells even if they come from a world without magic and those with magic can find their talents pulled in ways they weren't expecting. [ exhibit A, Tamaki. exhibit B, Childermass. ] I think that it's also obvious that there's opportunity for a bit of chaos, especially from magic that someone from a non-magical world has just learned.

[ says the person who generally causes 75% of the magical chaos to begin with. Still, there's nothing condemning in Strange's tone as he talks about people messing things up...if anything, there's a hint of awe. Magic is awesome, after all, and he's so pumped that people in the carnival are picking up spells. ]

Most of you know me already but for those who don't, I am Jonathan Strange, magician and nightrunner. Obviously my duties to the carnival come first, but should anyone with magic, whether from their home or the carnival, want someone to practice, discuss, or explore magic with, I'll gladly offer my help! [ because he is a huge nerd and wants to see how everybody else's magic shakes out. ]

Of course, the offer of discussion extends to all the carnival. [ He can't help but laugh a little, tone obviously chipper. ] After all, you can still talk about magic even if you can't perform it!
whattaprick: (lone wolf)

144.98750: PUBLIC CHANNEL, D90 (evening)

[ Hey, guess who has his voice back? Turns out traveling to Mainframe gives you plenty of voices to hear. But is he actually going to report back with anything useful? ]

"All of Man’s works, all his cities, all his empires, all his monuments will one day crumble to dust. Even the houses of my own dear readers must – though it be for just one day, one hour be ruined and become houses where the stones are mortared with moonlight, windowed with starlight and furnished with the dusty wind. It is said that in that day, in that hour, our houses become the possessions of the Raven King."

[ For once, his voice isn't carrying that edge of mocking, actually managing to sound solemn and thoughtful -- not that it lasts. There's the sound of a book being snapped shut, and Lambert resumes the rest of the radio post speaking in his normal tone of voice: just a touch insufferably smug. ]

Maybe Master Strange should consider becoming a poet, if he ever gets bored of being a magician.

[ And then, as an off-handed follow-up to that: ]

All scouts and nightrunners, report in. Let 'em know what they're in for.

DAY 88 -- PUBLIC CHANNEL

[It's a not terribly cheerful Psi greeting you on the radio today. In fact, his annoyance is palpable though he tries his best to restrain it.]

Are there any individuals here from species with... Alternative romantic relationships, by which I mean romantic relationships not motivated purely by... Love.

Barring that, I'm wondering if anyone here with experience fighting psionics is interested in... Sparring.
